Growing the hawk back.. what kind of hairstyle to have while waiting...

So I cut my mohawk off recently due to a bad relationship, and I'm mad that I did it.. So I'm re-growing it, but right now its like a quarter of an inch long so far. I don't want a short mohawk again, makes me feel poserish, but then again I just want to grow to about 3 inches max.

So with not wanting a short mohawk... what is a good hair style to keep while waiting? I can't have long hair, it gets itchy, and flaky.

How would cutting the sides only? borderline mullet?
