Help with styling a mohawk

ok, so i dunno weather my hawk is a bit too long for this, but i cant get it to fan nicely. like i hairspray comb and use the hair dryer, but no matter what i do i get like gaps in my hawk. i want it all nicely fanned out with no gaps but am having trouble.
Any help?

this is me putting up my hair and its pretty long,id say 7 inches,maybe it will help you
