Mohawks Rock

Hmmmm ... I've been begining to notice some things about MR

  • The amount of members; although the number of members are slowly rising,in reality- they are not. The numbers are one thing, the acual members are another; in my opinion, more than half of the accounts on here are empty- no longer used. I think people should only join this site if they want to use it properly; and contribute to it- as a community (kind of), not just pop in every 6 months and post two pictures :P
  • MOHAWKS ROCK CHAT- See that stip down the bottom of the screen that says mohawks rock chat? ITS NOT FOR SHOW!!!! Click on it- I'm surprised at the lack of people on there. And if there are people online its usually just the same people (you know who you are haha :P) - i know that people arn't on it as often as me (im on it bascically umm ... EVERYTIME!!! haha) but at least go on it every now and again, it's loads of fun if there's loads of people online (which there would be if you all just clicked on it :P)

anyway, this was just a useless rant so ... reply if you want to :P

While we are all different if you think about the sort of shared psychology of our community I think this will always be an issue.  I have to believe that on average mohawked people are going to be more the types that get out and about.  I mean why spike your hair and color it if you are going to be inside on the computer all day.

This is why you probably see other online communities really take off like gamers, hackers, moms etc.  On the converse there are many many of those types of communities competing for attention and I think that we have a nice carved out little niche here, we just need to think of ways to engage people in short 10-15 min windows before they are back out and socializing with the world.

Hey C.J., when you get back from your trip - you might want to edit the title to pull more people into reading this thread.  You have some very good points that I agree with.  Maybe: "Mohawks Rock get involved"?

I am noticing an increase in profiles with no profile text or even any replies from them in their activity list.

The chatroom used be pretty active most of the time when I used to use it regularly.  As you've probably noticed I've been popping in there for extending times recently myself. :)  The only way to use the chatroom here, is to stick around in it (as you do) even when no-one replies 'cause that problem with it showing folk browsing as people in the chatroom puts people off I'm sure when they get no reply.

It is great fun when there are even just a handful actually making the effort to chat a bit - even while browsing as well. :)  That's where the 2nd button on the right of the chat bar is handy - pops it out into its own window.

Well said, unfortunately I can't operate the chat via android (my phone works very well for comments and mail though) :). I don't know how many other people have jobs or other obligations that make computer access a rare opportunity but I'm sure a few of our "ghosts" are probably just not very accessible. The other thing is that as GMM said social networks especially ones that cater to a small or specific niche of people are always gaining and losing members or just getting visitors looking for tips and ideas. It is I suppose just the nature of the beast.

Sorry, I should explain better, when anyone visits the site, it also automatically shows you online in the chat whether you have it open or not.  It's a pet dislike of mine, 'cause it means people think you're online in chat when you're actually only browsing the pages and so it seems like you're being ignorant when you aren't.

So, even you show up in the chatroom, even though you can't operate the chat on your phone. :)  But actually, I was meaning 'ghosts', as in they once were lively responders with comments, but have since stopped bothering years ago.  You can tell by looking at their recent activity when they visit - their last replies were long ago, yet they still visit semi-regularly to this day.

There's not much you can do about it, except let more people know what's available.

A lot of people had never noticed that the site had 'chat'.  Though things have improved with the layout to make it more obvious, it actually seems to be emptier these days, even though there are more members.  There does need to be more people who understand that if they want to chat, they need to leave it open in a popped out window while they browse elsewhere.  Rather than saying 'Hi' and leaving a minute later because they got no responses.  Often the people shown as online in chat haven't opened it yet or can't operate it.

It just needs a handful of people (who can) to leave it open in a seperate window and that'd bring some life to it.

I see what you are saying, still wish there was an app so I could use chat on my phone lol

I don't know if this would work with Mohawks Rock chat, but it seems to be 'free' - apart from buying extra 'gifts', much like on here too.

Mogwee

It's an Android(and others) mobile chat app, developed by the nING, who also develop the social network system Mohawks Rock is using.  So, I'm hoping that it might let you use it to somehow connect to this site's chat.
