Mohawks Rock

Hey everybody, new to this site and just looking for a bunch of tips.

I'm hoping in a few days i'll have a mohawk of my own. The only problem is I have way too many questions that I need or want answered.

Just a description of my hair: I have 7 inch long, sort of curly, wavy, thick hair.

Alright here come the questions.

When I cut my hawk (I'll be doing it at home most likely) what is the best way to get it straight? I read up on many sites, including this one, that say use duct tape and I think my hairs way to long for that.

Should I straighten my hair before I put up the hawk or should I backcomb it and get it all frizzy?

What do you do when your hawk isn't up, just leave it down or wear a beanie or something?

Can't think of anymore at the moment.

If anybody has videos or other posts that can help me I'll be glad if you can get them for me.
Thanks for reading, and for those who answer, thanks for that too. ^^

Hey!

I've got 9inch curly/wavy thick hair and mine hawks no problem!

Straighten your hair I will imagine be the most popular method, if not, thats what I always do!

As for getting it cut, 1st time round I'd deffo get it cut professionaly, makes life so much easier to get straight lines if you have long hair!

When mine isnt up I either tie it back or brush it to one side.

Good luck dude!
I haven't a clue about the curly hair thing, I would think you'd want to straighten it but then again I don't have curly hair, haha.

As for videos, just roam through the site you'll find some :)

When my hairs down I usually push it off to the side, but was looking into a beanie because it just got cold here :)
IMHO, beanies' detract from the sexy beast factor though... ;) (You know, Z, you might have started something you can't control there *grin* )

@Marsminer: I think straightening it at that length even with the curliness will help you. The heat dries out the hair which helps make it stay upright for longer.
As for the straight or frizzy thing, you can do both, backcombing doesn't have to make it look all frizzy, you can backcomb it so it just has a more solid base and is easier to fan, and sort of smooth out the frizz by combing the hawk a bit when it's up, that makes it look more full but not all tangly.

I wouldn't use duct tape with that lenght, you could get it done once at the hairdresser and do the upkeep yourself, a lot easier
thanks for all the help! I'm either going to wait till after thanksgiving ... or say screw it and do it this week just in time to freak out my relatives and make them thing I'm even weirder then I actually am =D
