Can Religion be reformed to fix it's "flaws" or obsolete? Is the idea of religion dangerous to a society of Anarchists? Discuss.
Religion is such a HUGE variety. There are soo many of them, and soo many stupid, desperate people willing to believe. Sure there may be a god, devil, buddah, or whoever. But I am not going to waste my time believing in something I can't see, hear, taste or touch. I'm going to live my life how I want. I'll just find out about that shit when i die.
Most religions will not reform, definately for anarchists. They have always disapproved of them because church used to be the law. So anarchists to them were and depending on their beliefs are like an anti-christ, or atheist.
To answer your question... they are a threat to each other.
Who do you think is going to win?
Not so much as catering to but surviving in an Anarchist society. Religion in my opinion is out of date.
As i see it religion ( Ones that believe in a after life that is determined by your actions on earth) are actually just bribing people to not commit terrible acts. It's essentially just a bribe. I also the whole believing that the whole believing in a spiritual guardian is just a comfort for when your about to die or your life sucks. It's really just a way of avoiding inner strength by saying "God gives me strength" or "God will guide my life". Self reliance is needed not "faith".
I agree Anarchists are not a threat to religion, as of right now Anarchist are hardly a threat to anyone. What they (and me) need is cooperation, and though it may seem hypocritical a system.
YES! this guy knows what he's about, I too am agnostic but based on the divine attributes and their huge flaws I can't see how there can be a god, and if there is one, he's not all that great. I'm also pretty fed up of anti-religion people, they think they're smarter than everyone who has faith when actually half the time they're just too lazy to go searching for answers so it's easier for them just to sit back and laugh.
You can hear, taste, touch, and see love; the sensation known as love is caused primarily by the release of the chemicals dopamine, norepinephrine and phenylethylamine as well as increased activity in four specific areas of the brain and reduced activity in another three specific areas. The processes responsible for love can be observed, tested, and repeated. As a result, love can be proven meaning that one does not have to rely on faith to justify it's existence.
Now, onto your point about witches and atheists. Witchcraft was used merely as an excuse to persecute and kill people that the church didn't agree with or like. The vast majority of people tortured, executed, and burned alive for witchcraft had absolutely nothing to do with the practice; in most cases it was really because they were atheists, were unpopular within their community, pissed off the wrong people, believed in or preached something that went against the religious dogma of the time, or were simply being used as a scapegoat to explain some misfortune like plague or famine.
Religion has been used and continues to be used as a means to control the masses. Countless cultures, people, beliefs, and social and technological advances have been destroyed by the virus of religion. At the very least, religion inhibits a people's ability to observe the world for themselves and reach their own conclusions based upon rational thought and the scientific method. Religion may have had its uses a couple thousand years ago when there was little or no explanation for how the universe works; in modern times, however, it is completely obsolete and should be eradicated.
Simply put: Fuck Religion.
Not to be an asshole or anything towards your poem or you, but religion didn't create war, man did. Religion was created to organize people and to put fear into people that wronged the innocent. But Man soon used it to manipulate people and take their money and their lives. Almost every religion believes that killing people is wrong, lying is wrong, respect your neighbor, and love yourself. What's so wrong with that?
I might sound like I'm fighting for religion, but I'm actually an Atheist that was raised Catholic. I just think that it's ok for some people to believe in what ever the fuck they want to believe in. You know? So long as they don't tell me what to believe or criticize me for not believing in anything, my days will run their normal course. Criticizing people for being religious is just as bad as them telling you that you're going to hell.
How very interesting...the origins of the word: "conscientiousness, piety" and "to bind, tie" - if only the first part, conscientious of being good to others was a bigger part than the binding, controlling aspect on others. Almost seems like a contradiction.
As to Anarchists, well, Religion is about following/believing a set of tenets, so we have another contradiction, unless the tenets are just opinions and not rules. Can't see the two co-existing comfortably or rationally.
