The Obama pool
Gonna start a pool. There's no pot, it's just for A) shits and giggles, and B) to hopefully provoke a more serious discussion.
Right then: racism is still rife in the US, the UK and rather a lot of other countries in the global north. Divide and rule has it's claws in deep. Barack Obama is the US's first non-white president (he's not black btw, he's mixed-race.) Not everybody is gonna take kindly to having a man of mixed ethnicity running a country where a not inconsiderable number of people still feel that racism is a god-given right.
So, how long until some zealous nutjob shoots him? It doesn't have to be fatal, but the bullet does have to come within one metre of his skin. I'm gonna say 12 months. Any other takers?

Not black? Umm, ok I don't know what your getting at but he is certainly "african american". His dad was born and raised in kenya, and his mom was an american white woman, african & american. Also, yes there is still racism in USA, as with everywhere. They got pretty much the exact same % of voters for Obama that thought race was an issue as those who thought race was not an issue. Which shows that race does not have hardly any effect on a voter's decision. Which is immense progress since the civil rights movement 40 some odd years ago. Racism is not really noticable in most parts of the west coast areas, where I live. Most of the racists are in the south. And this year we saw Virginia and Florida(southern states) go to Obama! North Carolina hasn't gone democratic in an election in 44 years, and it is still undecided. And it was a close call in Georgia. Yes, we all have concerns about Obama's safety. But don't jinx it! All we can do I hope, pray and marvel at how far we've come in our nation's short history.

As long as he doesnt go visit Alabama he should be fine. But I'm damn glad he's gonna be the new president because if McCain was president and he were to die..... I don't think the world would survive Palin.

Okay, so I'm British, but I'm kinda proud that there is now a 'non-white' President, I hope there isn't another assination attempt, racism is rife here, but we all the fact that Obama is President. I hate racism, it disgusts me! Same with sexism, ageism and such.

Yeah but did you read what kind of people were making these attempts!! They were fucking hillbillies!! We are lucky if they can tie their shoes or figure out who the president is now. I am not worried because all of these "nuts" probably don't have the mental capacity to carry out a elaborate plan.
