Grad Speech
So I wrote a speech for my graduation and I was hoping to get some opinions on it before I submit it. I'd really appreaciate some feedback!
Graduation is a time to celebrate. We celebrate getting through all the drama and assignments of high school, but we also celebrate beginning a new chapter in our lives. Many of us are going off to four year colleges, Stanford, UCSB, Harvard, or where ever. Many others of us are staying here and going to Santa Barbara City College. Some of us will travel, and others of us will just work. Whatever your goals are as we enter the new and strange world of becoming independent adults, I ask to do one thing. I ask you to please, do what ever it is that makes you happy. It doesn’t have to be your major at college and it doesn’t have to be the work force that you go into, but always, in someway, keep doing something you love. If you’re not sure what you love, try new things. That’s part of becoming your own person. Often we hear that we have to follow the plans our parents set up for us at birth, but I entreat you to create your own path not in defiance of, but with, your parents. It’s been my experience that talking about your goals and dreams with your parents garners you more support than just changing every plan out of the blue.
In my four years here at San Marcos High School, I’ve seen good things and I’ve seen bad things. I will fondly remember all the good times and just let the bad memories melt away. We are the class of 2009, and now it really is our time to shine. Now is our time to go out in the world and make a difference, and do the best we can in every endeavor. Some of us will be scientists, some of us therapists, some of us mothers and fathers, and some of us just really big kids. Whatever you choose to do I sincerely wish all of you the best of luck, and I hope that when we all come back on our 10th year reunion we will remember all the positive experiences here at San Marcos, and that we will have new ones to share with one another.
