Mohawks Rock

How do you guys wear your mohawks , spikes or fanned >? I have always put mine up in spikes and want to wear the fanned look for a while but i can never get it to fan out good and stay. So if you would i would like to hear some feedback on this... maybe some tips or techniques?

Personally I feel that the liberty spikes dont look as good unless your hair is pretty long.

Truthfully, the fan effect is a lot of trial and error, ive had my hawk for atleast 6months and im still finding that as time goes on im able to make it look better and better. But to answer your question, I comb it a lot and then hairspray + blowdry just to get it to stand up and look half decent. Then you can go back again and coat it in hairspray and comb it while its more manageable. If you check out sonics video, he uses soap and gel in the beginning which really helps to get it to stay up and then you can brush it however you want without it wanting to fall. I can get my hawk up in 15min but i usually spend atleast 45min making it look pretty good.

Hope this helps.
i go back and forth some days i fan it some days i spike it. if u want to fan ur hair make sure it is dry if u have wavy or curly u should iron it,flip ur head down and take a comb and bush about a inch or 2 from the ends of ur hair stand back up spray it with hair spray and hair dry it using the low setting then spray the other side and blow dry it, just keep doing that and moving back, if u end up with spaces or gaps just let it got for the time being then go back and fix it, also i usaly take a bit and got2b hair glue over my hair after i fan it so its stronger.
I always preferred the fan look. Some people that have really thick hair can do the spikes and make it look equally awesome if they have them long enough. But I enjoy the fanned style more. It is much trickier and more work than spikes but worth it.

Like Nick said, a lot of trial and error. What works for some will not work for others. I have had mine for about 5 years and still play with new methods and ways.

I also agree with his statement about getting it to stand in about 15 minutes but taking much longer to get it looking decent. I am one of those people who really likes the not-perfect look...on every hawk but mine haha. And though I do not make mine "perfect" I really get annoyed with certain gaps. Mainly on the crown of head...if there is a gap there it becomes my life goal to eliminate it =)

A lot of my problems come when my hair gets longer and not so much from the hair itself I am finding, but because the top is actually substantially narrower than the crown and back. I am currently growing all of my hair back in a bit and then cutting in a new mohawk that will be wider and hopefully easier to deal with when it comes to this problem.

besides that, my ends are completely fried =( So the new hawk will do me some good and be in better shape at least.
I am exactly the same way Sonic, people say my hawk looks perfect and im like what are you talking about, it looks like crap haha. The hair on the back of my head is narrower then the top and i kind of wish it wasnt cut so skinny, it makes it so much harder to make it look right.

I finally bought some soap and am putting it in water right now. My hairspray way works pretty good for me but i want it to be really stiff.

But back on topic, dont get discouraged if it doesn't turn out right at first, once i put mine up i go over it again and comb it out, make it look better and i do this like 3 times. The only reason I dont wash my hair for like a week because it takes so long to put it up! Also it seems like everytime I put it up I end up making it better than before. Patience and hardwork pay off.
If you want a decent fan, try using the method on the vid on the homepage.

I love having a fan, but I find it much harder to do and harder to look after than spikes... So spikes just cause i'm lazy!
i agree with what the other folks say sometimes you get people with good liberty spikes but not very often. Fanning can pretty hit and miss...well mine is anyway, one day itll all fan neatly and others there will be one bit that doesnt seem to want to work. I guess is just a case of practise tbh.

one bit of advice dont use too much hairspray when i first got mine i used loads but that just tends to make the hair clump together but if you just use the right amount it will be strong and look good.
well, it depends, spikes and fans are both awesome, but with the fanned hawk, it was an enemy, THE WIND! lol, thats what ive herd, but spikes dont look good with short hair, just long i think. ive never done my hair in a fan, just spikes, i like'em alot, but takes a alot of work to put up, the spkies are especially hard to put up with long hair ( mines 11") but worth it =-) i think i might make a video soon on how to make spikes, ive looed all over youtube, and theres realy no good videos. ( besides this 1 guy with and orange fan hawk, but i wana make a spike one)
lol
if you blow dry it back, then comb it up and spray just the roots and about 3in above its alot easier to perfect the gaps later, because you can pull the floppy hair abve the three inches and spray it very lightly how you want it. Once its where you want it you can put more spray on to freeze it. I also find it is very usefull when you have your hair just how you want it, spray the tips and go over the tips ith an iron or hair straightner, this will make the tips really hard and make the fanned hawk much more durable. Ive had my hawk for three year and iv made it fanned most of the time, but if you want something truly durable, knox gelatin and liberyspikes is the way to go
i cant pull off spikes.. ive always stuck to fanning my hawks
finally got the fan technique working good .. it was all about the product/body>
Congrats on getting the fan working. What was the product? Hairspray?
the product i`ve been using is called aussie insant freeze , seems to work for me
