Mohawks Rock

So I've been listening to this band since before I started kindergarten. But has anyone noticed that the more political they get the more they suck? Like prior to American Idiot they were fantastic, but now their songs all sound the same and just suck nuts? I can't be the only one that hears/sees this. Or am I the only one that even listened to them anyway? haha.

Green Day was never punk.

They're no better than Papa Roach and Blink-182.

The bands that call themselves "punk rock."

Anyone who believes that needs a serious lesson in music history.

What I mean to say in so many words is: Green Day fucking blows and is better meant for 12 year old skate brats who think they're hot shit and call real punks "emo."
i like blink 182s first 2 albums
Never said you thought that.

I was merely stating that they are major douchebags and they do consider themselves punk rock.

Hardy har-har. Epic fail on their part.
Actually they are considered the godfathers of "pop punk" which is almost an entirely different genre. Just like how rap and hip hop have some similar sounds but are essentially different.

And why is it that emo is used as a negative term? Its like calling someone a punk.
No way near the godfathers.
uncles?
Totally agree. I hate the "omfgksjdfksjdf that band tootly sux there not punkzxzx" attitude. A band doesn't have to be punk for them to be good. I listen to tons of shit that most people on here would hate, but I could really care less.
+1 for having a good attitude! I totally agree.

Half of you guys would not like Barry Manilow, but that doesn't stop me from liking him. He was amazing.
I like a select few of their songs. It is mainly the non-political, older stuff that they did that is worthy of listening to, as you noted. I think that is just generally true of all bands, and especially so if you have followed them from the beginning.
I commend you on both expressing yourself and choosing to keep them to yourself.
Well I've been a die hard fan of Green Day ever since I heard the album Dookie. I love all their new stuff as well. Lyrically I think they are fantastic. Most bands tend to reinvent themselves the longer they create music, and sometimes it drives old fans away and sometimes it brings in new fans. But really a true artist will try new things and continue to reinvent themselves.

Now as always art is never going to please everyone. Its only going to draw to a few groups of people and not everyone.
"Most bands tend to reinvent themselves the longer they create music, and sometimes it drives old fans away and sometimes it brings in new fans. But really a true artist will try new things and continue to reinvent themselves." - great point!

Its marketing. If you don't keep up with the current demand, you will lose out. Most bands will keep playing older music too, for their older, loyal fanbase, but other than that, it's a fast paced world, and you need to keep up to make a living.

There is a huge difference with Green Day and "Local Garage Band". One band, it's a paying livelyhood, the other probably work a job or two to pay their bills between shows. The latter band doesn't need to change nearly as much as the band that pays their bills with that money.

Now, 21st Century Breakdown makes me want to punch babies, but that is a completely separate story. haha
