They're so expensive! Where i live they're like $80 to $120. Thats alot for a pair of boots. I got my boots from goodwill for 4 or 5 bucks and i've had them for 3 years. Do Docs stay together well, to me they look they'd fall apart like the sole would detach or something. I'd rather by a good pair of specialty work boots that are made to stay together.

my 2 cents; the only footwear I own currently are doc martens, I could give 2 shits what the brand is. As Moriah said, I guess theyre just quality foot wear, but that could depend on whos feet they're on.
But if you want to bring up capitalism, aren't you supporting brand loyalty by plugging Grinders and Steel?
I'm not sure what you mean by "paying for the just the name," I assume you mean $120 doc martens should only cost $50 and have $70 of brand attached. Which is true, apart from Blackspots I think everything has a certain amount of money attached to it in order to turn a profit. That chinese slave labor won't pay for itself, eh? (thats a joke, of course it will!)
I do an don't like Docs.
I don't like Docs after they started making their shoes in Thailand. The brand itself pretty much sold out and now makes cheap shoes that sell for a lot of money. I went to a brand shoes store the other day to check out the boots and they all were awful. The leather feels like plastic (that is even if it was leather) and the shoes are extremely light. I knew more about the shoes than the sales person, it was very disappointing. Their new shoes are purely for fashionistas that don't mind spending a lot of mosey for poor quality.
The only kinda that are still made in England are the "Made in England" or the "Forever" style, that are extremely expensive and only run in mens/unisex styles that are bulky and only have basic colors and styles.
I love the old Docs. I will only by second hand and made from England. I bought my first pair at a fancy thrift store. I paid $10 for a 3 eye pair of shoes. I cleaned them up and they are like new. They are kinds of heavy and bulky, but I really like them. I'm still looking for a pair of boots, since the pairs I own are not quality either. They are just some cheap off brand ones with made made materials. I have a green pair and a grey pair :3
I also have a problem with wearing leather. If I am going to, it has to be quality that I will used on a daily basis. The only leather things I really own are a belt and my Docs. If I can I go pleather with things that don't get a ton of wear and tear.
Summary: New Docs suck, old ones are awesome.
