Found something interesting just there looking at some Grinders for sale - I know one of the reasons you didn't like that pair you returned was the sole was too thick.  Well, seems like there are two styles, one named 'Stag' that has a thinner sole.  Here's the two styles - one actually says the sole is thicker than 'Stag'.  Question is, what was the name of the style you had?

Anyway, just a small discovery and the funny thing is all the images still show the old materials for the soles.  I wonder again if it's across the range or just on the style you had.  Had you ended up buying a different pair of boots instead yet?

ugh, that must be bloody annoying. Is there any local scene where you are?  It can be pretty cold, usually below freezing and the worst in my area's like -12 C or so, as soon as there's snow the whole country fucks up though, we really need to get our acts together

Everyone loves Canada!  It's funny, everyone over here loves Florida and wants to go there - they obviously don't know the shocking, horrifying truth.  I'm from kinda south-east way, near London, but I go to uni in Birmingham which is so much better (except tons of bands missing us on tours)
