The term pop-punk just doesn't sit right with me. What is your opinion on pop-punk?

i think its not punk. but it will always be listed as punk. reason. so your local hmv dosen't have to actually organize the music section.

I think that bands called pop-punk (green day, a day to remember, blink 182, etc.) are not punk bands and are simply using the word punk to get teenage girls who wanna think they're so rebellious to buy their shit. Its marketing.
as long as they dont go around shouting REEEL PUNK DEEP LYRICS DERP theyre okay with me, just as any other genre.
GARBAGE.

Punk is the Epitome of being "anti-pop culture," and pop is generally based upon all that we are supposed to be standing against, thus... I think it's a FUCKING RETARDED, BULL SHIT, LAME-ASS oxymoron of an excuse to look like us, yet have ZERO sense of what any of it means!!!!!!

LAME SAUCE!!!!...?!

i like pop punk...

like the toy dolls, the briefs, the cute lepers, the queers, the vandals etc.

I like to put them on whenever im feeling goofy.

not all pop-punk is mainstream, you n00bs.

and im pretty sure the pop stands for poppy and upbeat... not popular. -_-

pretty much what I was gonna say. Descendents, Screeching Weasel, The Lillingtons - all kick ass pop punk bands.  I can see that the terms been kinda been transferred in the mainstream psyche to bands like All Time Low though :/

Its a homonym, but I think the full term of "pop-punk" usually refers to the sound, and not strictly related to "pop-music," where the prefix means "popular," as in pop-culture, although I've heard it used both ways.

Maybe it goes:

Pop-Type Of Music= Poppy alteration of the music

Pop-Rock= poppy rock

Pop-Punk= poppy punk

Pop-Music= popular genre

I was going to post something simaler to this if someone hadn't gotten to it. Then I started feeling lazy, and decided if someone hadn't gotten to it, I'd just post a link to a video. I'm still posting the link. I like the song, and it's definitely a good example what you guys are saying, seeing as how Screeching Weasel is one of those sort of definitive pop punk bands, IMHO.
i like the descendents and blink 182. they are pop punk and i like the music but not the whole mainstream bullshit attached to them. apart from that they're ok.
