A good comparison I found, showing some of the differences between the regular ones you buy and those expensive ones made in England with the vintage materials & sole.

What's your experience?  And which style do you think is better?

Just 2% are made in England a year: 70,000 pairs out of a worldwide 3.8 million pairs in 2011.

great video!!

I feel like I'd enjoy the made in England better, some things I think are best kept traditional.
Even if they seem to be harder to break in I feel like they would be a lot more durable. Most things made in Asia are pretty cheap and fall apart sooner than expected.

I didn't realize that the Made in Thailand versions where bigger. Thats an interesting fact and something I wish I would have known before i bought mine. >.>
oh well, every shoe feels big on my feet because they are so narrow. I could lace my boots up as tight as possibleand they'd still feel a bit loose around my feet and calves. :[

Perhaps two pairs of socks on might help?  That's a common solution folk use with boots that feel a bit big on.

That video was really about the only source I could find about the differences.  It'd be good to have more opinions from people who have bought the recent made in England ones and broken them in.  The only time I usually get feedback from folk is right after they buy them new and that's not much use to tell how well they last, etc.

Plus, since the soles are a different material/colour it'd be interesting to see if they wear more/differently too than the made in Thailand ones.

I've thought about wearing double socks but it gets scorching hot in my part of Texas, Summers are an easy 40 degrees Celsius. Maybe even too hot to wear boots, its really humid down here too.
My feet are just super narrow as well, I have a lot of room width wise... made breaking in the boots a breeze cause my feet never rubbed against anything. :P

The only shoes my feet are really comfortable in are Converse (Chuck Taylors) because they are made narrow. Is it just me or did they start making them a bit wider once they were bought out by Nike and gained more popularity?
Sorry, I'm getting off subject.

Oh, yeah, those sort of temperatures are way too hot for double socks! :O

I don't know about Converse being made wider since Nike bought them out - I've always wanted them to be wider looking myself though. :)  There seems to be a trend in the last few years though here in the UK for shoes to be very narrow and slim.

Another interesting guide to how DMs are made in the English factory including how the iconic grooves & yellow stitching around the soles are done.
