Welcome to the site! Not tried gelatin myself - the few times I tried spikes I made do with hairspray - doesn't work well at all, ends split apart. But you'll find some useful threads on the forum about products & methods for spiking.
Hope to see some action shots with you on your skateboard with spikes or the 'hawk. :)
