Mohawks Rock

Question - rocked a hawk for a long time in the past, have not had one for four years or so. Just re-hawked and in the words of my girlfriend "regressed" on my appearance - back to the standard punk gear. Fuck that - I like it.

Anyway, the question: anyone else ever made the big appearance shift at work? PhD candidate here - friends and professors know I am into punk, but never really saw me in the gear or with the hawk - love my work, love punk. Can the two be combined? Am I gonna have to tone it down? A month or two til I have to decide.

LOL 'Regressed' - I've done that then quite a few times to the 'hawk =) It's my natural tendency too.

I had to shave off my 'hawk 'cause I knew I'd not get the job I was offered if I hadn't and I had already refused it once and was starting to run low on cash. There's still a lot of pressure for folk to conform in work dress and hairstyles.

For any job I'd be in I suspect I'd always have to tone it down, if I wanted to keep it. It's usually more an issue if you are dealing with an office or the public. How many ppl are in the workplace your job is at and is it for a big company?

The nearest I went in my small office was cutting some slight lines through my sides - I did get away with it and a colleague got away with red tips in his spiky hair done up with gel. But we both still had to wear shirt & tie. I did get pulled up because some women colleagues complained about my appearence 'cause I used to come in with a leather jacket in the mornings at first, even though I took it off before entering the office and hid it in a drawer so no clients later might see it.
Thanks for the input - at a university, rather than a company. The mohawk alone should be "okay," just worried about the rest - regressed hardcore back to the bog standard hardcore look - got out the old spiked and painted jacket, gripfasts, bondage pants, collar, chains, spikes, and put the piercings back in -missed it, happy to be back. Only really dealing with students I have to teach and professors.
Well, the Uni I went to, the lecturers could get away with a bit more casual clothing. I suspect it might be worth discussing with them and see what they think - can't do any harm getting opinions. I doubt most students will mind since they get to be casual dressed anyway.
