Rocking now, Rocked in the past, Thinking about rocking it sometime, Just like watching others rock them
Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
Started MohawksRock.com in November 2007, after finding it hard to find a good amount of information on how to actually make a mohawk. In the sites first year we have had over 1 Million hits from 150+ countries and 1000 members. Since then we have had 10,000,000+ pages viewed in 200+ countries with our top cities being London, NYC, Dublin, L.A. and Sydney.
I apologize if it takes me awhile to get back to you on comments or emails. I really do try to get back to everyone. After the first 1000 members I haven't been able to add everyone as a friend, but if you have joined, you are definitely a friend so feel free to add me too.
If you have a mohawk you know what its like to be looked at funny and even ostracized or admired. Keep this in mind on here and have respect for the different viewpoints of members here. We all have something more in common than awesome hair and that is an extreme sense of self and individualism. That sometimes causes arguments and harsh feelings, but remember they are as you are.
Finally, promote the site! Put links back to the site wherever you find necessary. The more active members we have the better information we will have and the more collective influence we will have. Tell your mom, dad, friends and co-workers. Lets unite a community of seemingly sparse individuals across the world.
How Tall Are You With and Without the Mohawk:
I'm 6'11 without the mohawk, and I'm typically over 8' tall with it standing, as I don't cut it below 13 inches just for this reason. Currently the hawk is around 20 inches putting me at 8'7 taller than Leonid Stadnyk (8'5), the worlds tallest man.
Well, I was amazed the domain name was still available in November 2007, so I bought it and started up this social network for all those that love mohawks.
Haha yes. Unfortunately no one is quite as badass/has badass hair as I do, other than Mr. T, but the incorrect gender. Looks like I will have to set the bar for female celebrity trends. I'm true to the hawk, this weekend (last weekend in April) it will be my mohawk's 4 year anniversary!
I'm afraid we have a 'slow spammer' onboard :D Which is better than fast, but 'she's' leaving the same message with a link to another site about replacing your income, sort of scam on a number of people's comments.
I agree, it's great to see all the various people's 'hawks of similar colours from the site in one. I will no doubt at some point do more shades - probably Black & White 'Hawks next - when I run out of things to do. =)
Well, 'Kobalos' and 'Kalos' were two very different meanings. Kobalos, I use 'cause I found it is greek for Goblin and I rather like the mischievous nature implied and then Kalos, can mean many things, but the one meaning I liked most is 'good honour'. Both suit me. But Kalos Kobalos (as I had for a brief time here), had a fun ring to it, but was a little long. heh heh
Kalos, is shorter for folk to type and I felt like switching back again to it for a little while for my Spring refresh. :)
Thank you! and yeah the Dengue Fever surfaced in key west after 80 years. but i haven't heard much about nowadays, only seems one chick was infected. and it hasn't spread anywhere else. and i haven't heard of any other outbreaks. so all is well. thank you for your concern.
That's very handy! So often I've hated seeing that site at the top of results and knowing it's pointless clicking through to try and find a tech answer.
Oh, okay, cool. I liked the user comments in the Recent activity mainly so I would know when people commented on my page, so I didn't have to keep going back to my page to check. And no problem.
Yes, I had considered it probably worthy of a forum thread too. Still, it's good to know that the site will live on.
I agree, it's better to avoid the steeper media hosting fees for video/music - embedding is all that needs to continue. I'll go read that forum post now.
I guess, although I'm used to moving betweem various virtual social communities after a few years (either through inactivity, close-downs, etc.). I do like the feeling there's a bigger history here of our interactions. Esp. the forums & comments.
I am sceptical of individuals staying though any place long online. Even more so with mohawks, because IMHV, most people are younger when they start them and then reality often bites down and they conform and move away.
What I do see though is a continual shifting of people, with a core segment. It's that handing on the torch between the core members that is difficult. A critical mass, if you like, must be attained and sustained or reignited. Activity & content is king!
I agree, it is a tighter niche community, not limited by just 'friends' lists but more directed into creativity & expression. Perhaps that's a little too far to put it, but it's partially true at least. More so, than most networks out there.
It's a difficult thing to prepare for, so few folk have time to maintain sites. Still, I'm sure there are people who would take responsibility. I know, in the past, often I found my own site (about a game I released a long time ago) eventually got taken over by three members of the community - even without me looking for it! :D
It outlasted even my interest in it, by a couple years.
With MR, you have a thing that can live on because it's based on so many interacting people - so much new blood to fuel it. It's hard to plan for who and what comes. Still, opportunities usually show up unexpectedly.
The challenges of passing on ownership is tricky - finding someone dedicated enough yet willing to sit on the sidelines is probably the best choice. Certainly with my site, I found that someone like that was the best choice - no drama, compared to those who were deeply involved in the community and striving for power.
Oh, I do, but recently my browser has been running really slow on certain pages, such as my yahoo, and fafsa. It's really quite annoying.
As for your "modding," I like your style because you let the site run without over moderation, you let people get their thoughts out there without too much intervention.
Alright, thank you for pointing that out to me, I'll be sure to check it out.
hey mate!
thanks heaps i really appreciate that,
absolutely loving this site,
and your mohawk is awsome, i love the way you've got the site advertised in it, brillient
I've bumped out the 11 spam topics Diane Downes added to the forum - and returned the order to the way it was before in the top five. I even managed to add value to the threads with my replies, I think. XD
I know they'll all disappear later once the account is removed, but at least this way, most visitors will see the real forum content until then.
And you're right, the spam accounts do seem to like using a tiny image for their avatar.
Hows about calling the chatroom; Free-For-ALL Intstant Messaging?? I think that sounds awesome cause that's what I realized it was. Ever play Vampire Wars by Zynga?
