I have a mowhawk but every time i do it, it looks like a whole bunch of chunky peices. Any help on how you do your fans would be helpful. Mine is about 4 inches maybe a little shorter.
Comb it out as you hair spray it? Don't grab handfuls of hair as you put it up?
I spray the roots to keep them in place...hold the ends of my hair at the front gently and then spray upwards, hair dryer it and then work backwards...have a little comb through to even it out if it needs and then do it again....all else fails, don't touch your 'hawk...place something on one side of it...like a piece of cardboard and then spray. I guess that's better for longer 'hawks...let's see what everyone else says....
And I'm presuming you use hair spray and not gel...gel always seems to clump together and doesn't fan as well as hairspray in my opinion.
Actually i use a little of both. I put the gel in to keep it in shape, then i put hairspray in it. And i work it back and up. It jst looks like hair clumped together then put up. thats it. Ive tried combing it out but it like rips my hair out.
Don't use gel; it sucks. Grab some hair glue or use a bar of soap. Cheack out this video; it's a great method of fanning shorter hawks and is what I used before it was long enough for hairspray: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwzRV-XeetY
