bleaching and dyeing

alright, i dont know if any of yall have experience with dye clothes, but ive got5 this new project going and if any of yall have a suggestion on how to best go about it, it would be great.

so i found this knee length denim coat/jacket at goodwill, and i want to make it a pirate coat...but its denim, i want it red. so ive bleached it, which may not have been good, cause some people say dye wont stick to it now, while others say unless you wash it a whole bunch, itll be fine. idk what to think. i know i couldnt just dye red over the blue, cause then id have purple which isnt really what i want at all.

soooo, does anyone have anything to elaborate on that?
