Aw dude! what the fuck! How does that even begin to make any sense? If there's such an energy shortage, stick a buncha wind turbines out in the wastes instead. I'm all down with the renewable energy thing, just all that came up when I googled Transcanada was "dergadoo it's an energy company."

Long story short, TransCanada is planning on constructing a tar sand oil pipeline that will stretch across the country, starting in the Gulf, and ending in Canada.  Nebraska is one of those states that it will be intersecting, placing fragile ecosystems (such as the sandhills and prairies) at risk, as well as impacting landowners and farmers. We need to give up our dependence on non renewable resources and instead focus on low impact energy, while drastically reducing our energy needs/demands. More oil isn't the answer, and is going to cause us more problems in the long run.  Note that this is the second pipeline that is going to run through Nebraska, and tar sand oil is the dirtiest and most expensive form of oil.
