I don't really know a WHOLE lot of people. I mean, my husband and I have mutual friends, but we also have different groups we roam in too (which is good for when we want to get away from each other lol). I have about 6 friends here. I work with my two best friends in this area but they are not punk in the least... but they are not judgmental either. My other best friend from the area I met through my husband. Her and I are pretty much inseparable. Other than that though, I don't really know too many people. It's always super awesome though when I get to see other people who are punks when I'm working. Unfortunately we can't really socialize too much with customers. :(
Holy fucking sweet! I'm not sure which park it was. I just moved here a year ago, and I was only at that park once on 4th of July (got some wicked fireworks pics). I just asked my husband (he's lived here all his life) and he can't remember which park it was either. lol So how's your day been?
I'm not surprised you use the terms 'gay' and 'retarded' incessantly - that's the point, a lot of people do now, esp. the young. It was the same with racist and anti-women terms 25 years ago, you didn't experience that.
So I come with a different perspective growing up where most remarks were against women and black people. They were accepted as 2nd class with lower legal status, social and job entitlements (some of that still persists).
Even still, ppl refer to something being womanly to mean of lesser worth, just not as persistantly now as 25 years ago. That's been taken over by the use of 'gay' and 'faggot'.
An occasional aside remark pointing this out doesn't harm anyone, it just raises a valid point in a minor way that might make folk think before they speak. It's like manners, if you don't keep some, society gets pretty unpleasant.
