I hear ya about the town thing. I live in a college town that is an art/music school. You would think there would be some interesting people but it is so bleak here.
When I grew up here it was not like this. When I was 15 or so we had an amazing music scene. Not just punk but everything that I ended up getting into was because it was happening here. We had punk shows all the time, a lot of bands. Even bigger bands once in awhile would come here. The Code played here as did Crucial Unit.
Besides that there was a lot of experimental music happening. Lot of noise and sound collage artists and everyone would support each others shit. Shows would often have a few punk bands, a few noise artists, and some acoustic singer song writers. It really was so amazing to be a part of.
It is so different now. I do my stuff and NOBODY here even knows about it. I have tried to get a punk thing going and had no luck for years. It really sucks that people have become so disconnected from everything.
It is partially because of exploitative places like HT or any other place. Record labels and scenes do not help either. People are so afraid to step out of their "scene" because they might be shunned. I find it so horrifying that "punks" are supposed to be so liberated and free and are just as cliquey and harsh as everyone else.
Yeah I look punk so what? Yeah thats right I play fuckin noise and ambient music. Point?
I could go on for years about this but it never seems to get me anywhere so I will shut it.
Yeah I don't live anywhere near NYC. I live in the western part of the state near Buffalo.
Buffalo fuckin sucks so bad. A few good bands but the kids involved in the scene are ignorant, arrogant pricks. Lucky to have 20 people at a show unless its the casualties. Nothign against the casualties but it is bullshit that these kids won't come out and support bands that need it much more.
I was supposed to see them last March when they toured with Witch Hunt but literally a day before the show my headlights shorted out so I could not make it. It is at least an hour drive for me to any show and there is nobody else in my town into this stuff so if I have car or no money, I am pretty fucked.
I'm confused. Weren't you already on here? Did you have to create a new account. Let me know if there was a problem with the system, and I'll see if I can help in any way.
