Parents and mohawks
Ok, so i got my mohawk last sunday, and since then whenever i wear it up, my mom looks at me like i'm scum. It's just fucking hair. I didn't go get a tattoo of FUCK YOU across my forehead, i don't come home high or drunk, its just fucking hair. She treats me like shit, and my dad and stepmom almost disowned me. How did you guys deal with getting a mohawk with conservative close minded parents? BTW i'm 16 and still in school, but going to job corps in the next months, so they don't even have to deal with me for much longer.

i straight up told my mom that i was gonna do it, and she told my dad.

i mean the only "interfereance" i had was my mom saying "i still don't think that it would suit your face"
to which i replied "well i'm already ugly, this can only improve"
so its all good here. my dad had a laugh and my sis likes it too
i had no idea people were so damn strict! "..and my dad and stepmom almost disowned me" that's disgusting. i'm sorry dude. hopefully they back of and let it sink in.

My mom has always liked my mohawk and encouraged me to get it and my dad never cares what I do.
The only thing that ever upset my mom was my septum piercing but she got over it pretty fast.
I'm sure anyones folks will get over it over time though.

I made a hawk one and a half year ago.My parents didn't have problem(Mom:Old punk,Dad:Rocker/Anarchist).Actually i have problems with some of my teachers(i am 17 years old,so still in school),nazis,kangoures(a kind of greek rappers that don't like anyone except themselves) and stupid people.So i wear a baseball hat when i walk(mainly alone) at public.If i don't,i usually got troubles:P

I disagree that we/you should act the way they think of us/you, that's letting them win. That's just proving them right, that punks and mohawkers are bad people etc. etc. a hairstyle shouldn't change who you are, it might change the way people look on you but nothing has really changed. Instead of acting like scum it's alot more fun to dress and look weird and then complely startle the conservative upperclass people by being polite and smart, they didn't see that coming!! That really makes people think, instead of just believing everything they see in TV they actually get a different first-hand experience with punks, now isn't that worth fighting for? I think it is.
To stay slightly on topic, fight their ignorance with knowledge, let them know it's still you and confront them with their prejudices(?!) and make them realize how childish it is to judge someone by their looks, and their own child!! They should know better.. If you haven't guess yet, my parents are open-minded and know that it's just hair and it'll grow it, no big deal

If people treat you poorly because of the way you look assuming you're scum or w.e. and then you act like scum...you're only proving them right, so if you do that you don't really have a right to complain about them treating you as if you were scum...because you are.
