I personally, have visited the west coast. I've never been to the east coast (always wanted to). I didn't experience any culture shock but I can't say I prefer living here but i think that no matter where you live you can find problems with it. Everyone here is so homogeneous. Its not that people aren't different, but in a way they're all the same. I have a nasty tendency of placing most everyone in the same trashcan. Does anyone else beside me ever feel like they're the only sane person capable of rational thought? Prejudice of all kinds is rampant out here, they close themselves off from ever thinking for themselves. Alot of "punks" i've met also buy into it, why is it always a matter of "us" vs. "them"?
If you work retail...you'd swear you were the only person who knows what rational thought is.
haha

I think it might be different if you're visiting compared to moving... when I moved out here, it was really weird (I was living in Iowa before). I have no issue visiting anywhere, but when everything is being uprooted and thrown around, it's a bit much. :-\
yeah you got a point. I worked as a cashier at walmart for 3 years before quitting last week lol there were times that i fantasized about slamming people's faces into the register.
OOOOOOH WALMART.
My uncle still works for them. I don't know how you all can do it.
I work in a mall and that is bad enough for me. Stupid fucking teenagers.
i think it takes a degree of masochism to work in retail... especially in walmart. I'm going to work at the town liquor store for the summer. I'm gonna just work the stock room so i don't have to mess with the people hahahaha
Working at Walmart SUCKS!! I know, I work there right now. D:
Btw i know that wasn't really relevant to the discussion, just wanted to throw that out there.
haha it's all good
I think there is a slight difference in the shows, how they are run, what bands make what list, etc.

But this is all out of speculation and observation.
Like where I live, you can't fill a venue half the time with the kids that show up. Even if it's small
same problems... no punks either. the only punk shows that ever did well were the ones that me and my friends made ourselves and got the bands for.

bigger venues in tulsa can get rancid, dropkick murphys, and flogging molly to come. Oklahoma City got the Unseen and the Misfits. alot of people here are obsessed with rancid and oi bands. I'm more of an old school hardcore guy but you don't see many of those bands still around.
Haha, you kind of just made my day. Or at least, gave me reassurance. My dad had to work in Tulsa. blahhh. And after being told by my best friend who spends a quarter of the year there that the shows suck...oh boy. Thats not too bad.

As long as you have the money, and a strong promotion team, I think any venue could get anyone. In theory. haha
I used to live in Indiana before i moved here to Connecticut. I didnt really know what punk was at my young age, i mean i knew who the ramones were, for some reason, but i also liked pearl jam and it all sounded the same. i wasnt much of a punk at my young age, but i spiked my hair a lot with blue and red gels, and i was pretty known for doing weird shit with my clothes, like putting different botoms onto zip-off pants, lol, so weird colors. then when i moved out here, there were some punk kids, and i really related to them. they dressed and acted this certain way and i was like "oh, ive been doing his already, this seems pretty cool." the east coast, of what i know, is nice because most people can hit up a small local show of bands they have never heard before, and all these harcore and angry punk bands show up. good pits, good friends, a good time. i love those shows. BUT, the dress here varies greatly. if u go to a punk show, youll find some hardcore kids in their whatever clothes, jeans, t-shirt. some all-out punks, with the dyed hair, the heavily studded jacket or vest, lots of patches, tight jeans, dm's or converse. and then u might get some hippies, lol, that are just there for a good time. and drunks, always a plethera of those around, ha
