Cutting a Friends REALLY CURLY HAIR Into a Hawk?

So one of my friends Anjel wants a mohawk.. He had one a long time ago, but his hair is.. REALLY fucking curly... And I mean REALLY fucking curly. He has almost the same texture as african american hair.. So like.. I dunno how I'm really supposed to straighten it/spike it up. Anyone got any ideas?

There's a picture of him in my pics if anyone needs to see the curliness I'm trying to describe. Lol

You can probably use a combo of chemical relaxer for hair to straighten it a bit and then use a straightener after.
