this "grotto" was actually formed by a huge rock that had been moved down stream, got stuck at that point and kept getting swirled around by all that running water, carving out this lovely, round hideaway. Formations like this are all around the waterfall, in various sizes, and the local folklore says it's where the devils hooves landed as he ran off angrily after he got his tail wet sitting on his rock (- which I didn't get a pic of...yet).
